How to Stop Your Folding Shower Screen Leaking 2026 Guide

Last updated: 16 January 2026

A customer recently got in touch, properly frustrated. They’d tried seals from four different shops—and every single one failed. Their folding shower screen was still leaking.

If you're in the same boat, here’s the reality: The fix depends entirely on how your door folds and the size of the gap.

Already know your size? Head straight to our bi-fold shower door seal collection to find your match. Otherwise, let’s get it sorted.

Case #1: The Leaking Folding Screen

The "Bifold Catch-22"

Our customer used a standard H-shape seal but had to install it backwards (long fin facing out) just to get the door to close. But then the thin fin couldn't stop the water. Typical!

Why "Standard" H-Seals Fail Inward Doors:

Flimsy Fins: Standard H-seals (see our guide: Which Way Round?) rely on a thin fin that’s often too weak to create a proper watertight seal for inward folding shower doors.

Why is the regular Double Seal Strip not recommended here?

Simply because the gap between the two panels is less than 10mm—there's just no room to fit it. If your gap is wider than 10mm, then our Double Shower Door Seal Strip is the way to go.

If your door won't stay shut, check our guide: Why Your Bifold Door Won't Stay Closed to find the perfect thickness. Getting the size right is half the battle.

How to stop the leak: Two Pro Options

Option A: The Bulb Seal

A life-saver for narrow gaps. The Pro Trick: Snip one side of the soft fin off to make the bulb extra "squishy". It creates a perfect watertight "plug".

Option B: Hard 'H' Seal

A specialist fit with a reinforced fin. Note: This is a bespoke item with a 1-month lead time. Drop us an email to secure yours.

Case #2: A proper DIY nightmare

Case study door

We recently saw a bit of a disaster with an inward-folding screen. The previous installer had tried to use a magnetic strip to bridge the gap. The result? A massive 5mm+ hole where water just poured out. Magnets are for closing doors, not for sealing folding joints!

Vertical gap issue

Good news: You don’t need a new door. You just need the right kit. Here’s the 1-2-3 plan:

01. The Side Gap: Ditch the Magnets!

If your gap is over 10mm, our Double-Fin Seal Strip is a proper winner. It’s designed specifically for folding joints and handles gaps up to 35mm.

02. The Bottom: Keep the water in 💧

A standard Drip Rail is usually all you need. Just make sure the angled fin points inwards to deflect water back into the tray.

03. The Secret: The Corner Join 🛠️

This is where most people trip up: the join between the side and bottom seals. If there's a gap, the water will find it. You must precision-trim them to interlock. It makes the finish spot on.
