How to Replace Your Shower Screen Bottom Seal: A Simple Guide

Replacing your shower screen bottom seal is one of the easiest DIY fixes that can save you from water damage and endless cleaning.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about replacement shower screen seals and how to swap yours out step-by-step.

Tools You’ll Need To Replacement Shower Screen Seal

  • Marker pen
  • Secateurs
  • New shower screen seal
  • Tape measure
  • Cleaning supplies

Step-by-Step Guide to Replace Your Shower Screen Bottom Seal

Step 1: Remove the old seal carefully

First, open your shower door.

Pinch the U-shaped channel of the seal with three fingers and pull it straight down — you’ll hear a nice little pop as it comes off.

A Quick Tip:

Don’t try this with the door closed — you won’t have enough space to pull properly.

And please, don’t try sliding the seal off.

That just makes it harder and can scratch your glass, especially if the seal is old and brittle.

Step 2: Clean the bottom edge of the shower screen

Once the seal is off, you’ll probably spot a build-up of soap scum and limescale at the bottom of your glass.

Don’t skip this step!

A clean surface helps the new seal stick better and last longer.

Step 3: Measure your shower screen

Grab that tape measure!

Most replacement shower screen seals (like the 950mm ones we sell at SIMBA) are longer than needed.

That’s normal — you’ll trim it to size.

Don’t just measure the glass. Measure the entire gap that needs sealing.

Like in our example — the seal won’t be able to go all the way into that corner.

So we need to account for that and trim the seal accordingly.

In our case, we measured 39.5 cm for the sealing length — not the glass, the gap.

Since that wall bracket is in the way, the seal won’t go fully to the end.

Time to grab the scissors!

Step 4: Trim the seal (here comes the fun part!)

We recommend using a sharp pair of garden secateurs.

Clean cuts, no mess.

We wrote a full guide: "How To Cut Shower Door Seal Easy?"

It covers 3 different cutting methods — so you can find the one that works best for you!

Now — what if the seal hits the metal hinge and doesn’t fit?

Don’t panic.

Just trim off the U-shaped channel on that section, and leave the bottom fins in place.

It’ll fit snugly around the hardware and still keep your bathroom puddle-free.

Step 5: Install Your Shower Screen Seal

Now it’s time to install your shower screen seal.

We recommend starting from the inner side of the shower door — the edge that’s closest to the wall.

If you install the seal from the outer edge first, you might miss small gaps on the inside — and water could still leak out.

So always start from the side nearest to the wall. That way, the seal creates a tight barrier from the inside out — giving you maximum protection from leaks.

Start by clipping the seal onto one corner of the glass.

Then, press it on little by little — in order — from bottom to top. Take your time and make sure each section is securely attached before moving to the next.

⚠️ Important:
Do not slide the shower screen seal along the glass — this can stretch or damage it. Always press it in step by step.

Step 6: Install the Shower Threshold Seal

The final step is installing your shower threshold seal — and trust us, it’s not optional.

Many people skip this part, but it’s critical to prevent leaks, especially if your shower door is frameless or has a bottom seal only.

This seal comes with a self-adhesive backing. We’ve pre-applied the adhesive tape during production to make it easy for you.

Here’s how to apply it properly:

  1. Start from the wall-facing end of the shower door.

  2. Peel a small section of the tape.

  3. Carefully stick the seal down bit by bit, peeling more tape as you go — apply it in one smooth motion.

⚠️ Do not peel off all the tape at once.
And please avoid repositioning — once it sticks, leave it.

After applying, let it sit undisturbed for at least 10 hours before using your shower.

This ensures the adhesive cures properly and forms a watertight bond.

Once installed, even if you spray water directly at the bottom of the shower door, no leaks will get through.
