If the magnetic edge inside your old seal appears to sit at roughly 45°, close the shower door first and look at how the two glass panels meet.

If they form a clear L shape when the door is closed, begin with 90° magnetic shower door seals.

If the two glass edges meet roughly in a straight line, look at 180° magnetic shower door seals instead.

The 45° angle visible in the end of the old seal often describes the sloping magnetic face inside one profile. The 90° and 180° labels usually describe how the two glass panels meet when the door is closed.

Why Does the Old Seal Look 45°?

Once the old seal has been removed, the magnetic core inside the clear channel may appear to slope noticeably to one side. Product cross-section images often show the seal from the same angle, which is why many people search for a 45 degree magnetic shower door seal.

Suppliers do not always use angle descriptions in the same way. Some names refer to the magnetic face inside a single profile, while others classify the seal by the way the complete shower door closes. An old seal may therefore look like 45°, even though the replacement range is listed under 90° or 180°.

A 90° Door Uses the Pair at a Right Angle

If the two glass panels form an L shape when the door is closed, this is a 90° closing position.

In many 90° sets, the seals have angled magnetic faces and are fitted to adjacent glass edges. As the door closes at a right angle, the magnetic faces meet. Taken off the door, either seal may still look like a 45° profile, but together they are used for a 90° closure.

An Inline Door May Need a 180° Seal

If the two glass edges meet roughly in a straight line, look at 180° magnetic shower door seals.

This arrangement is quite different from a 90° door, although the magnetic face inside each seal may still be angled. What matters is how the two profiles are fitted and how they meet when the door closes inline.

For an inline door, start with the 180° range rather than relying on the 45° appearance of the old profile.

Once You Know Which Range to Check

After narrowing the choice down to 90° or 180°, check the glass thickness, closing gap, cross-section and fitting direction before choosing the exact replacement. The product may also be supplied as a single strip, a pair or a left-and-right set.
