What to Measure What It Means Recommended Seal Type
Glass thickness Measure the glass itself, not the old seal. Choose products marked 4mm or 4–6mm glass.
Gap under the door Distance from the glass to the tray or bath rim. Bottom seal with a 12mm, 16mm, 20mm or 23mm fin.
Side gap Gap between glass and wall, frame or fixed panel. Vertical, H-shape, F-shape or bulb seal.
Door closure Glass-to-glass magnetic closing edge. Magnetic seal for 4–5mm glass.

Are 4mm shower screen seals the same as 4–6mm seals?

Many replacement shower screen seals are designed to fit a small range of glass thicknesses, such as 4mm, 5mm and 6mm.

If a product is marked for 4–6mm glass, it can usually be used on 4mm glass when the channel, profile shape and fitting position are correct.

Will a 4–6mm shower seal grip securely on 4mm glass?

It should grip securely if the seal is designed for 4–6mm glass and the glass edge is clean and dry before fitting.

Because 4mm glass is at the thinner end of the range, choosing the correct profile is especially important to avoid slipping or loose fitting.

How do I choose the right seal for a 4mm shower screen?
